Missouri turned the SEC spotlight upside down
No. 25 Missouri beat No. 8 Florida 45-17 after the game was tied 10-10 late in the first half. Austin Simmons threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, Jamal Roberts ran for 211 yards and three scores, and Missouri scored 35 consecutive points. Florida entered 4-0 and favored by 5.5 points in a published pregame market reference; Missouri therefore won outright as the underdog.
Ohio State answered its road test
No. 5 Ohio State won 31-14 at No. 14 Iowa. A published pregame reference listed Ohio State as a 14.5-point favorite, so the Buckeyes covered that number by 2.5 points. The result matters beyond the margin: Iowa had entered unbeaten, and the game tested Ohio State away from home against a ranked Big Ten opponent.
Saturday’s board rewarded context
Minnesota beat Michigan 20-14, Kentucky survived South Carolina 35-34 in overtime, and Baylor routed Arizona State 55-19. Those results are a reminder that ranking, reputation and the previous week’s score can quickly lose value when matchup-specific execution changes.
MLB Division Series — Game 1 finals
| Matchup | Final |
|---|---|
| White Sox at Guardians | White Sox 3–0 |
| Braves at Dodgers | Dodgers 5–3 |
| Yankees at Rays | Rays 1–0 |
| Padres at Brewers | Brewers 3–2 |
Rasmussen owned the tightest playoff opener
Drew Rasmussen carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, struck out 10 and allowed one hit over eight innings as Tampa Bay beat New York 1-0. Jonathan Aranda’s third-inning home run supplied the only run. The game’s structure—elite starting pitching, little traffic and no margin for a mistake—shows why postseason totals require more than a season-long offensive average.
Every MLB opener stayed close
The largest margin was Chicago’s 3-0 win, and three games were decided by two runs or fewer. Milwaukee erased San Diego’s early 2-0 lead, while Los Angeles held off Atlanta after building a 5-1 advantage. The facts describe one day; they do not guarantee the same bullpen or scoring pattern in Game 2.
NBA preseason
| Matchup | Final |
|---|---|
| Miami Heat vs. Toronto Raptors (Quebec City) | Miami 129–105 |
Miami won the only NBA preseason game on the board. Tim Hardaway Jr. led Miami with 14 points, while Toronto’s T. Key scored 15. Preseason results need rotation context because minutes and lineup priorities differ from the regular season.
NFL: No games were played Saturday.
NCAA men’s basketball: No games were scheduled.
